Job Description
**OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
KCAL News has immediate openings for a full-time Newswriter/Producer at the Los Angeles Duopoly. You will be a key member of the news team, thats critical to the overall news image and growth of the station. We are seeking a dedicated, efficient, accurate and creative writer for this position. Youll write scripts, edit video, create graphics, and assist in the overall production of stories for the Newscasts, as well as assisting in news cut-in production when necessary. This is a Writers Guild of America position and membership in WGA is required.
**RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:**
+ Assist Producer and fill-in, when needed, on Newscasts & Cut-Ins.
+ Build a compelling newscast with high production value in a competitive environment.
+ Excellent storyteller and have the ability to craft a news story using words, pictures, sound, and graphics.
+ Excellent writing skills and copy-editing ability needed.
+ Proven control room experience and be able to smoothly handle live breaking news.
**BASIC REQUIREMENTS:**
+ 5+ years experience, preferably in a top 20 market
**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:**
+ Strong Tease/Promo writing.
+ Newswriting, line producing, editing.
+ Collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel to create compelling content.
+ Maintain a steadfast commitment to accuracy and fairness.
+ Generate story ideas and participate in editorial meetings.
+ Understand & use digital tools such as social media & our OTT platforms to reach viewers and deliver news.
+ Strong people skills.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Experience with Avid iNEWS, and Grass Valley Edius System a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $74,360.00 - 104,832.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
