The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is recruiting to fill a vacant Investigator position within the Office of Protective Services (OPS) at Porterville Developmental Center (PDC) .
Under the direct supervision of the Headquarters Supervising Special Investigator II (Training Captain) Office of Protective Services (OPS). T he Investigator, hereinafter referred to as “Detective”, is a sworn Peace Officer pursuant to section 830.3(v) of the California Penal Code. Responsibilities include the establishment and implementation of productive police education and training programs and conducting independent criminal, civil, and/or administrative investigations to identify violations of Federal, State, and/or local laws and facility policies. The Detective conducts and completes investigations within established guidelines as set forth in the Office of Protective Services Law Enforcement Investigations manual. Investigations may include but are not limited to: client deaths; allegations of abuse and neglect; fraud; embezzlement; and criminal history investigations based on a subsequent arrest or DOJ/FBI notification. The Detective will collect and verify evidence; complete clear, concise, and accurate reports; and may conduct undercover or surveillance operations. The Detective will work with other agencies such as the Department of Justice, Department of Motor Vehicles, municipal and superior courts, law enforcement agencies, probation departments, and other criminal justice agencies in connection with the investigation of criminal offender records. The Detective will utilize a database to track and monitor the status of each investigation.
DDS now offers an entrance salary rate of $6,837.00 for the Investigator classification.

The Office of Protective Services (OPS) is a Law Enforcement Agency. After the background check clears, the applicant will be appointed to the position. This background check includes interviews of employment and personal references; and FBI, California DOJ finger print clearances and DMV clearance(s). The selected applicant must complete a notarized waiver for access to their personal records.
Completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Academy or Specialized Investigators Basic Course is required ( Please attach certificate to application ) . And current California driver’s license are required. This is a sworn Peace Officer position pursuant to California Penal Code section 830.3(v). Successful candidate will undergo a complete background investigation, in accordance with the Commission on POST requirements. All appointments subject to pre-employment physical and fingerprint clearance.
