Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, energetic and engaged Elementary French and Spanish Teacher to join our Lower School faculty (Grades K-4). The ideal candidates will create a nurturing and stimulating educational environment, develop and implement engaging lesson plans, and support the individual learning needs and interests of each student. This role requires a commitment to fostering leadership skills, scholarship, and personal growth in young learners.

The salary for this position ranges from $50,000 to $75,000 and is based on years of experience.

  • Responsible for teaching French and Spanish to kindergarten through 4th Grade, incorporating speaking, writing, comprehension, oral communication, and culture.
  • Develop and facilitate lesson plans that align with Charleston Day’s curriculum and educational philosophy.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and a love for learning.
  • Integrate academics with the teaching of social and emotional skills in an active learning environment
  • Develop and implement scaffolded lesson plans to meet each child where they are
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to students and parents.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices and contribute to the school's community.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices.
  • Responsible for performing all duties assigned such as carpool, lunch, study hall, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, French, Spanish, or related field
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French and Spanish
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • Strong understanding of child development and diverse learning styles
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
